ATM Raid

Police were called to Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire after reports that a gang had smashed through a building society window.

Four people used a JCB digger stolen from a nearby farm and a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck to carry out the raid at about 1.45am.

Footage posted on social media showed the cash point being lifted out by the crane of the digger.

ATM crimes could be prevented if so-called ‘precursor’ offences are reported to the police. These can often seem minor and include theft of number plates, ropes, straps and chains and cutting equipment.

Witnesses are being asked to contact police here. You can also call 101 if you don’t have internet access or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
